Distinguished Conduct Medal

'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He took command of his section when the battery was ordered to move forward, and led them to their new position. Though wounded, he remained at duty, and got both guns into action. His courage, skill, and determination during a very difficult operation were invaluable to his battery. Later, when the ammunition in one of the gun pits was set on fire by enemy shelling, he extinguished the fire, and saved a large quantity of ammunition.'
