Embarked Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 27 March 1916; disembarked Marseilles, France, 3 April 1916. Joined 4th Bn, in the field, 17 May 1916. Wounded in action, 16 August 1916 (gun shot wound, left arm and left leg), and admitted to 2nd Australian Field Ambulance, and transferred to 44th Casualty Clearing Station; to Ambulance Train No 15, 20 August 1916, and admitted to 1st Canadian General Hospital, Etaples, 21 August 1916; transferred to England, 4 September 1916, and admitted to Rust Hall VAD, Tunbridge Wells; discharged from Chatham on furlough, 16 October 1916, to report to No 1 Command Depot, Perham Downs, 31 October 1916.
