Military Medal 'During the attack on BROODSEINDE on 4th October, 1917, this N.C.O. in company with another Sergeant led an attack on an enemy observation post - killing some of the occupants, and taking prisoner the remainder. Again, before the final objective was reached, an enemy Strong Post was holding up the advance. He took part in the capture of this post in which prisoners were again taken. His work in organisation, consolidation, and leadership of his men was exceptional. Sergeant WARD has always displayed courage and coolness in the line, and has a very good record.'
