Distinguished Conduct Medal 'On 1 September, 1918, in the attack on Mont St. Quentin, he led his platoon forward with great dash and determination in the face of heavy fire, and upon his Lewis gun team becoming casualties he took up the gun, went forward alone, and put two hostile machine guns out of action, thus covering the advance of his platoon.'
