Embarked Adelaide, 27 June 1916; disembarked Devonport, England, 22 August 1916, and marched in to 8th Training Bn, Larkhill.

Found guilty, 29 October 1916, of being absent without leave from 9.30 pm, 29 October, to 1 pm, 31 October 1916: deprived of 10 days' pay; total forfeiture: 13 days' pay.

Peroceeded overseas to France, 11 November 1916; taken on strength, 32nd Bn, in the field, 25 November 1916.

Found guilty, 18 June 1917, of being absent from parade: awarded 7 days' Field Punishment No 2.

Wounded in action, 22 October 1917 (shrapnel wound, left thigh), admitted to 3rd Australian Field Ambulance, and transferred to 17th Casualty Clearing Station; to Ambulance Train No 36, 24 October 1917, and admitted to 1st Canadian General Hospital, Etaples; transferred to England, 4 November 1917, and admitted to Cambridge Hospital, Aldershot, 5 November 1917; transferred to 3rd Australian Auxiliary Hospital, Dartford, 3 January 1918; discharged to No 2 Command Depot, Weymouth, 8 January 1918.

Commenced return to Australia on HT 'Llanstephan Castle', 15 February 1918; disembarked Melbourne, 16 April 1918, for onward travel to Adelaide; discharged (medically unfit), Adelaide, 1 May 1918.
