Distinguished Conduct Medal

'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. This N.C.O. has for a long period rendered valuable service as sergeant in charge of the scouts of the battalion. As leader of numerous patrols he has been the means of securing valuable information in "No Man's Land" and at all times he has set a very fine example of coolness and complete fearlessness.'
