Military Medal

'Is recommended for his gallantry during a strong enemy raid near HOLLEBEKE on 24th February 1918. The enemy succeeded in driving in one of our posts and Sergeant Watkins rallied his men and led them forward through a heavy grenade barrage and re-captured the post. That the enemy's object was defeated and the raiders driven off was solely due to this N.C.O.'s ready resource and initiative. His action was well worthy of recognition.'
