Embarked Sydney, 14 June 1917; disembarked Liverpool, England, 26 August 1917, and marched into 7th Training Bn, Rollestone.

Found guilty, 5 November 1917, of at Fovant (1) absent without leave from 6 am 26/10/17 till 3.30 pm, 27/10/17, (2) conduct to the prejudice of good order and military discipline in that he on some date between 18/10/17 and 27/10/17 altered a genuine pass No. 1043168 so as to make it appear that his leave expired at 6 am 28/10/17 whereas it expired at 6 am 26/10/17 with intent to deceive: awarded forfeiture of 28 days' pay; forfeited a total of 30 days' pay.

Proceeded overseas to France, 7 November 1917; taken on strength, 26th Bn, 13 January 1918.

Admitetd to 6th Australian Field Ambulance, 21 April 1918, and transferred same day to 20th Casualty Clearing Station; to Ambulance train No 41, 24 April 1918, and admitted to 8th General Hospital, Rouen, 25 April 1918 (syphilis); to No 1 Stationary Hospital, Rouen, 25 April 1918; to 39th General Hospital, Havre, 26 April 1918; to England (heart), 18 May 1918, and admitted to No 2 Command Depot, Weymouth, 19 May 1918.

Commenced return to Australia on board HT 'Essex' for discharge (cardiac in sufficiency), 7 June 1918; discharged (medically unfit), Brisbane, 19 August 1918.
