'This man was on continuous duty in POLYGON WOOD near YPRES from night of 25th/26th September, 1917 to afternoon 27th September, 1917. He twice had men in his squad killed beside him and although wounded about midday and since evacuated, refused to go off duty and carried on until six wounded men had been carried back to a place of safety.'
