War service: Egypt Admitted to 1st Dermatological Hospital, Abbassia, 28 February 1916 (venereal); discharged to rejoin unit, 21 March 1916; total period of treatment for venereal disease: 21 days. Marched out to Details Camp, 9 October 1916. Marched out to Anzac Sick Quarters, 1 November 1916. Detached to Australian Army Medical Corps, 6 January 1917, and attached for medical training to 14th Australian General Hospital, Abbassia, 16 January 1917. Joined Details Camp from attachment to 14th Australian General Hospital, 22 February 1917. Transferred to 14th Australian General Hospital, 28 February 1917; taken on strength, 20 April 1917. Tried by Field General Court Martial, Cairo, 30 April 1917, on charge of disgraceful conduct of an indecent sort, in that he at Abbassia on the 18th April 1917, between the hours of 8 pm and 9 pm committed an act of indecency with an Egyptian boy named ---, by allowing his penis to be placed in the mouth of the said ---. Pleaded Not Guilty. Found Guilty, with the exception that the Court find [sic] that the accused did not actually allow his penis to be placed in the mouth of the Egyptian boy ---: awarded 90 days Field Punishment No 2. Taken to Field Punishment Compound, Abbassia, 4 May 1917; rejoined unit from Punishment Compound on expiry of sentence, 28 July 1917. Taken on strength, 4th Light Horse Training Regiment, 7 August 1917. Appointed Temporary Corporal (Cook), Australian Army Medical Corps Training Unit, 25 September 1917. Detached to School of Cookery, Alexandria, 25 November 1917; rejoined unit, 18 December 1917. Reverted to rank of Trooper, 28 January 1918.
