Military Medal

'For gallantry and devotion to duty during an attack on enemy trench near MORLANCOURT on night 5th/6th May, 1918. As a linesman he laid wires from Company Headquarters to forward positions on final objectives. Enemy shells frequently cut the lines, and throughout the whole day on 6th instant he was continuously engaged in effecting repairs with a total disregard of personal risk. The ground over which he had to work was under enemy observation and devoid of cover, and he was the target of much sniping. Communications were maintained because of his devoted service.'
