Military Cross 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in an attack. On reaching his objective with his platoon he found his position harassed by fire from an enemy trench. He crawled out and reconnoitred the position, and then, with the assistance of rifle grenades and a trench mortar, silenced the fire. In the evening he attacked and occupied the trench, killing seven of the enemy, and capturing one machine gun. He showed fine courage and leadership.'
