'This N.C.O. has been with the Battalion from its arrival in France till the end of September, 1918, as a Company Quartermaster Sergeant. His work in that capacity has been invaluable. His first care has always been the comfort of the men of his Company and he has never spared himself in the slightest degree in his efforts on their behalf. During various lengthy periods in which the Battalion has been in the line his duties have been extremely arduous, when he has been called on to make two trips daily from the Transport Lines to the trenches with hot food. It has been almost exclusively due to his cheerful energy that the supply of hot food has never failed to reach his Company. he has on numerous occasions returned from these journeys in an advanced state of exhaustion, but has always been eager to make the succeeding trip. He has always made it a practice to proceed with the rations to the most advanced posts, so as to satisfy himself that each man was getting his proper issue of rations. He has proved himself a thoroughly reliable conscientious and efficient N.C.O.'
