Military Medal

'Is a Battalion Runner and prior to and during the advance near ZONNEBEKE on the 26th September, 1917, his work was performed with conspicuous courage and devotion to duty. Constantly throughout the day and night he carried messages over ground swept by shell and machine gun fire and in parts swampy and almost impassable. Undeterred by the heaviest barrage, he could always be relied on when energy and courage were essential.'
