'During the attack by the enemy on VILLERS BRETONNEUX on the 24th April, 1918, this N.C.O. kept his gun in action through a most trying bombardment of H.E. and Gas Shell. He also performed excellent work during the attack on HAMEL on the 4th July, 1918, and throughout the August operations on the SOMME. He has at all times performed splendid work both in getting his gun and ammunition into gun positions, and in maintaining his gun in action. He is deserving of special recognition.'
