Military Medal During the attack North of ROSIERES on 9th August 1918 when his Company Sergeant Major became a casualty, Sergeant WHITE took over his duties and did splendid work throughout the operation. When his Company was held up, he organised and led a party up a German communication trench, clearing some of the enemy and obtaining a firing position for his party which enabled them to bring such fire on the enemy as to neutralise their machine guns and enable his Company to advance. He personally reconnoitred the ground in front of his company from time to time under heavy fire and gained much valuable information for his company commander. When the objective had been reached he showed great initiative in consolidation and reorganising the company. Throughout the operation he showed a splendid example to all ranks of courage and devotion to duty.'
