Military Medal 'For conspicuous bravery and devotion to duty. During the operations near CHUIGNOLLES on August 23rd and 24th, 1918, Sergeant WHITFORD was in charge of the forward squads of bearers, and repeatedly went forward across ground heavily swept by shell fire, taking squads to new positions as they were established. It was largely due to his courage and energy that the wounded were evacuated without delay, when our line advanced 4 kilometres in one day.'
