Wounded in action, 18 June 1917 (gun shot wounds, right leg, left shoulder, head), and admitted to 76th Field Ambulance, and transferred same day to No 3 New Zealand Field Ambulance; to Ambulance Train No 19, 20 June 1917, and admitted same day to 83rd General Hospital, Boulogne; transferred to England, 27 June 1917, and admitted to Alexandra Hospital, Cosham, 28 June 1917; transferred to 1st Australian Auxiliary Hospital, Harefield, 9 August 1917; discharged on furlough, 30 August 1917, to report to No 2 Command Depot, Weymouth, 13 September 1917.

Commenced return to Australia on board HT 'Berrima', 31 October 1917; disembarked Melbourne, 30 December 1917; discharged (wounded: left eye unecleated; gun shot wound, face, right thigh and shoulder), 9 February 1918.
