Military Medal 'For great courage and devotion to duty while working to the north of POLYGON WOOD on 26th September, 1917. He was one of a squad of bearers who carried wounded continuously for 36 hours over boggy and heavily shelled country. The particular stretch of country over which this man worked was sufficient to try the stoutest heart but he continued doggedly at his work and set a high example of pluck and cheerfulness to his fellow bearers.'
