War service: Western Front Embarked Sydney, 22 May 1916; disembarked Plymouth, England, 18 July 1916. Proceeded overseas to France, 29 August 1916; taken on strength, 3rd Tunnelling Company, 30 September 1916. Found guilty, 18 January 1917, of when on Active Service disobedience of General Routine Order 81, viz., not paying compliments to an Officer: reprimanded. On leave to England, 5 August 1918. Found guilty, London, 15 August 1918, of when on Active Service overstaying leave from 10 am, 14 August, to 10 am, 15 August 1917: forfeited 7 days' pay; total forfeiture: 8 days' pay. Rejoined unit from leave, 21 August 1918. On leave, 26 February 1919; rejoined unit from leave, 24 March 1919. Found guilty, 29 March 1919, of when on Active Service, being absent without leave from 6 am, 12 March, until apprehended at 7.30 pm, 20 March 1919: awarded 14 days' Field Punishment No 2, and forfeited a total of 23 days' pay.
