War service: embarked for Gallipoli from Alexandria, 16 May 1915.

Injured in fall-in of dugout (fractured ribs), 11 June 1915; transferred to Malta, 20 June 1915, and admitted to Floriana Hospital. Transferred to England, 18 July 1915. Admitted to Military Hospital, Hampstead, 27 July 1915. Commenced return to Egypt, 22 February 1916; disembarked Alexandria, 5 March 1916; returned to duty, 7 March 1916.

Transferred to 3rd Light Horse Brigade, 31 March 1916; to 8th Light Horse Regiment, 31 October 1916.

Marched out to Australian Mounted Division, 31 March 1918; returned from Australian Mounted Division, 29 August 1918. Appointed Lance Corporal, 3 September 1918. Appointed Acting Sergeant, 1 February 1919, whilst working in Officers' Mess; reverted to Lance Corporal while retaining rank of Acting Sergeant, 4 March 1919.

Accidentally wounded (discharge of revolver; not to blame), 22 May 1919.

On leave in England, 26 August 1919, until 9 September 1919.

Commenced return to Australia on board SS 'Makara' as crew member, 24 September 1919; disembarked Brisbane, 24 December 1919; discharged, 28 February 1920.
