Mother wrote to Camp Commandant, Exhibition Camp, Adelaide, 16 October 1916, requesting that her son be transferred to a Home Service unit or be returned to Broken Hill, as he was only 19 and she had not given her consent.

Mother wrote again, 24 October 1916, saying that she and her husband gave their consent to their son going on active service 'providing he has a good training and is proved fit to go'.
