This man carried wounded all night on the 4th/5th November, 1916 from the front line to NORTH FLERS Dressing Station under very heavy Artillery and Machine Gun fire, and subsequently cheerfully responded to the call for collecting the wounded from "No Man's Land" Reg. Aid Post, during the performance of which duty one bearer Lieutenant Corporal Fleming was killed, and Private Whalen of 2nd Battalion, was severely wounded. Private Briggs himself was wounded by shell fire later on the 5th November, when returning to Camp from his duty.'
