' For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. During the march to the jumping off tape, this N.C.O. directed and controlled his platoon wiht great coolness with it got into a heavy barrage, and brought it through without loss. In attacking the second objectibe, when rifle and machine gun fire checked the platoon, he rallied his men and dashed forward, causing the enemy to surrender. He set a remarkable example to his men
