'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. After displaying the greatest courage and determination in leading his own company to its objective, he organized other companies and consolidated the position, repelling three counter-attacks. It was entirely due to his fine example that the objective was gained, held, and consolidated under heavy fire.'
