Wounded in action, 19 August 1915 (gun shot wound, right thigh); admitted to 15th General Hospital, Alexandria, 24 August 1915; discharged to Ras el Tin Convalescent Hospital, 30 August 1915.

Admitted to Reception Hospital, Mustapha, 30 September 1915 (gonorrhoea); transferred to Convalescent Hospital, Cairo, 2 October 1915. Admitted to No 1 Australian General Hospital, Heliopolis, 6 October 1915; transferred to No 3 Auxiliary Hospital, 11 November 1915; discharged and admitted to Australian Overseas Base, Ghezireh, 3 February 1916. Rejoined unit, Serapeum, 6 March 1916.

Embarked Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 22 March 1916; disembarked Marseilles, France, 28 March 1916.

Found guilty, 15 May 1916, of disobedience of orders in that he was absent from billet from 1400, 12 Mya, until 1530, 13 May 1916 (25.5. hours): awarded 7 days' Field Punishment No 2, and forfeited 2 days' pay.

Appointed Lance Corporal, 17 July 1916; promoted Corporal, 1 August 1916; Sergeant, 7 August 1916.
