Embarked Melbourne, 2 October 1916; disembarked Plymouth, England, 16 November 1916. Proceeded overseas to France, 21 December 1916; taken on strength, 5th Bn, 2 January 1917.

Wounded in action, 22 April 1917, and admitted to 3rd Australian Field Ambulance (shrapnel wound, head); transferred to 3rd Casualty Clearing Station, 22 April 1917 (gun shot wound, head); thence by Ambulance Train No 16 to 3rd Stationary Hospital, Rouen, 25 April 1917; to England, 14 May 1917, and admitted to Richmond Military Hospital, 15 May 1917.

Commenced return to Australia on board HMAT 'Berrima', 31 October 1917; disembarked, Melbourne, 30 December 1917; discharged, 2 February 1918.
