Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. Near BELLICOURT on 29th September when his Company came under very heavy shell and machine gun fire this N.C.O. display and the greatest bravery in moving about and organising the attack. Although wounded he continued on duty and his initiative and courage contributed largely to extricating his Company from a difficult position. By his coolness and utter disregard of personal safety under exceptionally trying circumstances he set an inspiring example to all.'
