War service: Western Front Embarked Sydney, 25 November 1916; disembarked Devonport, England, 29 January 1917. Marched in to 9th Training Bn, 6 March 1917. Found guilty, Sutton Mandeville Camp Details, of being absent from parade, 1 am, 2 March, until 4.30 pm, 3 March 1917: awarded 4 days' Field Punishment No 2, and forfeited a total of 8 days' pay. Found guilty, Durrington, of being sbsent without leave from Reveille, 24 June, until 10.30 pm, 24 June 1917: awarded 4 days' Field Punishment No 2, and forfeited a total of 5 days' pay. Proceeded overseas to France, 20 August 1917. Found guilty, Rouen, 31 August 1917, of when on Active Service being absent from the 3.53 pm reinforcement train until reporting to the MP at 6 pm the same day: awarded forfeiture of 4 days' pay. Taken on strength, 36th Bn, 1 September 1917. Admitted to 9th Australian Field Ambulance, 21 September 1917 (not yet diagnosed), and transferred same day to 4th Stationary Hospital (defective vision); discharged to unit, 25 September 1917.
