Wounded in action and admitted to Casualty Clearing Station, 11 August 1916 (shell shock); transferred to 25th General Hospital, 14 August 1916; to Convalescent Depot, 4 September 1916; discharged to 4th Australian Division Base Depot, Etaples, 9 October 1916.

Admitted to 26th General Hospital, 19 October 1916 (rheumatism); transferred to England, 29 October 1916; admitted to East Leeds War Hospital, England, 29 October 1916; transferred to 2nd Australian Auxiliary Hospital, 20 November 1916; discharged and marched in to Weymouth Command Depot, 14 November 1916.

Commenced return to Australia on board HT 'Ulysses', from Plymouth, 13 February 1917; disembarked Perth, 12 April 1917; discharged, 25 June 1917.
