Military Medal 'Of the Lewis Machine Gun Section who had his gun at the advanced point of 77. His gun team consisted of himself and one other man. He remained in this position, which is within the German lines, from the night 28th/29th August, 1916, until the morning 31st August, 1916. During the whole period this portion was constantly under fire from aerial torpedoes and rifles at close range. He directed and himself took part in digging operations during this period. He is recommended for his devotion to duty in remaining on this post for the period indicated. Near MOUQUET FARM.'
