Military Medal 'During the operations on the afternoon of 21st September, this N.C.O. was conspicuous for gallantry and devotion to duty under very heavy fire. He was one of a small advance party which had nearly reached the front line, when the enemy opened with heavy Artillery Fire. About twelve of the party took cover in rear of Anzac House when a shell landed on the edge of the group severely wounding one of the party, and slightly wounding Lance Corporal WILLMOTT. Despite this he immediately commenced dressing the other man's wounds, and also those of others in the vicinity, and continued doing so notwithstanding that terrific shelling was still going on all round him. A number of enemy stick bombs which had been dumped, were exploding but he remained cool and collected. He then carried a severely wounded N.C.O. to shelter and attended to this N.,C.O.'s wounds, until he was taken over by the Stretcher Bearers.'
