'On the 11th/12th August, 1918, during operations on the SOMME, near PROYART, this man several times rushed parties of the enemy and machine guns single handed with absolute disregard of personal danger. He succeeded in killing many of the enemy and took many prisoners. His courageous action was a splendid example to his comrades.'
