Found guilty, 6 September 1916, of being absent from parade: awarded 3 days' confined to camp. Proceeded overseas to France, 10 September 1916; taken on strength, 46th Bn, in the field, 29 September 1916. Admitted to No 1 New Zealand Stationary Hospital, Amiens, 6 November 1916 (influenza); transferred to Ambulance Train No 9, 9 November 1916, and admitted to 12th General Hospital, Rouen, 10 November 1916; transferred to England, 22 November 1916, and admitted to 1st Southern General Hospital, Birmingham, 23 November 1916 (condition 'severe'). Admitted to 1st Australian Dermatological Hospital, Bulford, 23 January 1917; discharged, 7 June 1917; total period of treatment for venereal disease: 136 days. Marched in to No 1 Command Depot, Perham Downs, 15 June 1917.
