Military Cross

'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. While the battery was being subjected to very heavy shell fire, he showed splendid coolness in evacuating his men to places of safety. Though badly wounded later, he refused attention until the occupants of a dug out which had been blown in, had been extricated, personally supervising the work of the rescue party. His courage and endurance were of the highest order.'
