Commemorated in Shankill Cemetery, Lurgan, Co Armagh, Ireland. Inscription reads: '... killed at Loos, 28th Nov. 1916 by a German mine explosion while listening in a mine gallery.' Parents: Joseph (d. 20 June 1890, aged 53; bu. Shankill Cemetery) and Catherine (b. 20 December 1844, d. 10 December 1894; bu. Shankill Cemetery) ALLEN.

Proceeded overseas to France, 28 August 1916; marched in to 2nd Australian Division Base Depot, 30 August 1916. Marched out to Reinforcements, 3rd Tunnelling Company, 25 September 1916; taken on strength, 3rd Tunnelling Company, 30 September 1916.

Posted as missing in action, believed dead, 29 November 1916. Subsequently confirmed as killed in action, 27 November 1916.
