Proceeded overseas to France, 23 August 1917; taken on strength, 36th Bn, 1 September 1917.

Wounded in action, Belgium, 12 October 1917 (gun shot wound, right side); admitted to 3rd Australian Field Ambulance, 14 October 1917; transferred same day to 17th Casualty Clearing Station, and thence by Ambulance train to 1st Canadian General Hospital, 15 October 1917. transferred to No 6 Convalescent Depot, 20 November 1917; to No 5 Convalescent Depot, 28 November 1917; to 2nd Sationary Hospital, 6 December 1917 (scabies); to England, 31 December 1917, and admitted to Princess Christian War Hospital, 2 January 1918; transferred to No 1 Australian Auxiliary Hospital, Harefield, 8 January 1918; discharged to No 3 Command Depot, 10 January 1918. Marched out to Overseas Training Brigade, 9 April 1918.
