Military Medal 'While acting as a Stretcher Bearer during the attack on PERONNE, under most intense Machine Gun and Artillery fire, he continued for 36 hours, without rest to attend to the wounded. His task took him into the most dangerous places and he was to be found wherever men had fallen. On many occasions going out into NO MANS' LAND to attend to, and bring in wounded, and undoubtedly saved many lives. His great personal bravery, cheerfulness and devotion to duty, set the finest possible example to all his fellow stretcher bearers, and it was mainly through his efforts, that the wounded of his Company were all cleared from the battlefield.'
