Distinguished Conduct Medal 'For his cool and courageous work at Es Salt on the 1 May 1918, in handling his gun at a critical time, several men being killed in his vicinity. He never left his gun for twenty four hours. This man has on several previous occasions distinguished himself by his pluck and ability. During the action above, 300 prisoners surrendered.'
