Meritorious Service Medal 'Has been Sergeant in charge of cooks for 24 months, with 5th Australian Field Ambulance. His skill in invalid cookery has been notable at all times on the occasions in which the Unit has had large numbers of patients to provide for while carrying on as a Rest Station. The good cookery and cleanliness have under these circumstances materially assisted the quick return to their units of these patients. under trying and difficult circumstances he has at all times provided for members of the unit itself while in action and behind the lines hot, nourishing food, thereby greatly increasing the contentment of the whole Unit.'
