Found guilty, 24 April 1916, of neglect of duty on 23 April 1916 in that he failed to appear on guard mounting parade at 1800 hours with a clean rifle: admonished.

Embarked Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 17 June 1916; disembarked Marseilles, France, 23 June 1916.

Posted missing, 20 July 1916.

Court of Enquiry, held in the field, 12 August 1917, pronounced fate as 'Killed in Action, 20 July 1916'.

Statement, Red Cross File No 3000206, 344 Pte R.C. HARRISON, 27th Bn (ex-32nd Bn) (patient, War Hospital, Duston, Northants, England), 13 February 1916: 'I saw Winter's grave at Fleurbaix close to Sgt. Burbidge's. He was killed at Fleurbaix.'
