Military Medal 'For conspicuous bravery and devotion to duty at BROODSEINDE RIDGE east of YPRES on Oct. 4th, 1917. Pte. WINTERS was sent forward to the right flank of the Battalion to see the right Coy. Commanders and to report progress of the attack. At this time there was a heavy enemy barrage between the forward troops and Battalion Headquarters. WINTERS got in touch with the Company Commanders mentioned and when returning was wounded in the leg. Despite his wound he still persevered and brought valuable information to Battalion Headquarters.'
