Military Medal 'At BUIRE near ALBERT on night of 19th/20th May, 1918 during inter-Battalion relief Private WINTER carried wounded continuously during heavy shelling, many of his trips being through an intense barrage where many stretcher bearers became casualties. He constantly organised fresh stretcher bearing parties and continued to carry until he collapsed on the morning of the 20th. His power of leadership, absolute fearlessness and devotion to duty are worthy of the highest praise.'
