'On September near WESTHOEK, this man was runner and observer. He brought in information under heavy machine gun and shell fire. He was wounded but delivered his despatch before having his wound attended to. This was a very important despatch and his act was one of great personal sacrifice. He has on previous occasions done very good work.'
