Military Medal 'At DEMICOURT on 9th April 1917 for conspicuous courage in action and devotion to duty. During the attack on the village he very boldy led his section right through it and took up a position on the northern side of it. Later he led a patrol up the sunken road running East and brought back valuable information regarding the enemy's positions. Although wounded in the taking of the village he remained at his post knowing that if he went away his Company would be practically without N.C.O.s.'
Source: 'Commonwealth Gazette' No. 174 Date: MM Bar 'South of Strazeele, on the morning of the 11th July, 1918, this N.C.O. led out a patrol from our lines and succeeded in getting behind two of the enemy posts. Though absolutely exposed to view he disposed his patrol to the attack of both positions. In one the garrison was surprised and captured, but from the other resistance was met with. The enemy opened fire, but despite this the position was immediately bombed and the enemy forced to keep down. It was by promptly taking advantage of this superiority that the occupants were made to surrender, bringing the total up to 11 prisoners secured by Corporal Wood's party in this encounter,'
