Distinguished Conduct Medal

'During the attack on Peronne, 1 September, 1918, this non-commissioned officer displayed magnificent courage and leadership, helping to reorganize the company under very heavy artillery and machine gun fire. Later, he led six men against an enemy strong point, capturing two machine guns and ten prisoners.'
