Military Medal

'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during operations at PERONNE on 1st and 2nd September 1918. This man voluntary went forward with a Lewis Gun section, which had become greatly weakened by casualties, to cover a slight advance of our line. This gallant soldier acted in a cool and calm manner under the most trying circumstances and he assisted the Lewis Gunners greatly. he showed utter disregard for his own personal safety and remained with the Lewis Gun throughout the advance. Although seriously wounded this did knot deter him from carrying on and he would not leave his gun till ordered to do so by his Company commander. His voluntary and courageous action is worthy of the highest praise.'
