Military Medal 'This Gunner formed one of a Gun Detachment of a Section of the 49th Battery which occupied a position in advance of our Infantry during the operation in advance of our Infantry during the operation of the 29th September, South East of BELLCOURT. This section came under Heavy Machine Gun Fire from a range not exceeding 500 yards and from 77mm Guns at 800 yards. Whilst occupying this position, this Gunner set a splendid example by his coolness and disregard of danger. he subsequently acted in a similarly fearless manner during the withdrawal of his gun. After this was accomplished he obtained a stretcher, and with the assistance of another man returned to the position and carried away a man who had been wounded. This was done in full view of the enemy and under Machine Gun fire. This man's excellent example is deserving of special recognition.'
