'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty as a stretcher bearer at MOUQUET QUARRY on the 26th August, 1916. He worked without interruption until exhausted, and carried straight on with his work paying no attention to the severity of the enemy fire. Private WOOTTON has repeatedly distinguished himself by his fine soldierly conduct in action.'
