Found guilty, Tel el Kebir, 18 February 1916, of being absent without leave, 2200, 16 February, to 2200, 17 February 1916: awarded 7 days' confined to camp, and forfeited 2 days' pay.

Transferred to 5th Division Artillery, 15 March 1916, and posted to 53rd Battery.

Embarked Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 20 June 1916; disembarked Marseilles, France, 30 June 1916.

Wounded in action, 2 October 1917 (gassed), and admitted to 3rd Canadian Casualty Clearing Station; transferred to Ambulance Train, 3 October 1917, and admitted to 1st South African General Hospital, Abbeville, 4 October 1917; transferred to England, 10 October 1917, and admitted to Horton War Hospital, Epsom, 12 October 1917; discharged on furlough, 12 December 1917, to report to No 1 Command Depot, Sutton Veny, 26 December 1917.

Marched in to Overseas Training Brigade, Longbridge Deverill, 28 January 1918.

Marched in to Reserve Brigade Australian Artillery, Heytesbury, 5 March 1918.

Proceeded overseas to France, 13 March 1918; rejoined unit, in the field 19 March 1918.

Found guilty, 22 July 1918, of (1) being absent without leave, 5.30 pm, 25 June, until apprehended by Military Police at about 10 pm, 25 June 1918; (2) being in Abbeville without a pass; (3) being absent without leave from 8.45 pm parade, 28 June, until 11 pm, 28 June 1918; being absent without leave from 4 pm parade, 29 June 1918, until 5 minutes later: awarded 10 days' Field Punishment No 2, and forfeited a total of 10 days' pay.

Promoted Temporary Bombardier, 19 October 1918; Bombardier, 19 January 1919.

Marched out to England for return to Australia, 9 April 1919.

Found guilty, 7 May 1919, of being absent without leave, 2359, 28 April, to 2140, 30 April 1919: admonished, and forfeited 2 days' pay.
